IKUWA3 conference fee

IKUWA3 conference feeDear members,

the expectedly relative high costs for the participation in IKUWA 3 have prompted a benefactor of our society to donate a fund, through which the DEGUWA is able to subsidise a limited number of participants by refunding the admission fee of ca. EUR 200,- for the „IKUWA 3 Congress“ (9.-12. July, University College London).

The allowances will be distributed by the executive committee on reception of an informal request and transferred after the conference. Requests are to be send not later than 20th June to Daniel Zwick (DEGUWA delegate in the IKUWA 3 steering committee).

Hamburg Declaration

In February 2008 the DEGUWA organised its thirteenth »In Poseidons Reich« annual conference in collaboration with the archaeology department of the University of Hamburg, the Peter Tamm Sen. Foundation and the 'Arbeitskreis für Historischen Schiffbau e.V.' (Workgroup for Historical Shipbuilding). The papers which were held within the session on the 2001 UNESCO Convention for the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage revealed the unsatisfactory reach of this convention, which is still not in force in international waters. This induced us to release the paper presented by Dr. Ulrike Koschtial (UNESCO) on the state of the 2001 UNESCO convention and our Hamburg Declaration ex ante, in order to stress the urgency and the need for action to enhance protection for the underwater cultural heritage.

DEGUWA & Ideenpark

DEGUWA & IdeenparkThe DEGUWA takes part in the section 'water world' of the ThyssenKrupp exhibition Ideenpark. Here our water-dredge will be presented and demonstrated alongside other Grundfos titan-pumps. Also games for children will be offered, e.g. writing under water. Ideenpark is a world of technical experiences, especially appealing to adolescents, families and pupils. The next IdeenPark will take place from the 17. to 25. May in 2008 in the trade fair of Stuttgard supported by the federal state of Baden-Württemberg and more than 120 partner organisations. The entry to IdeenPark is free.

Discovery?

Discovery?

Notification of authorities! Divers are legally obliged to notify the responsible authority when finds are made under water and to leave the position and state of the object unchanged. It is a matter of course that heritage agencies would investigate each finds report, as they carry out own underwater archaeological investigations since years. The discovery should be treated confidential and not shared with anybody else.
